Education
Tigist holds a Master’s degree in Medical Biochemistry from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Medical Biochemistry at the same university. Tigist has completed her coursework and successfully defended her research proposal. She is expected to complete her PhD in December 2025.

Research Summary
Tigist’s research addresses the growing challenge of diagnosing thyroid cancer, a condition with increasing incidence globally. Current diagnostic methods, such as fine needle aspiration and ultrasonography, have limitations, including high costs, poor predictive value, and reliance on the expertise of radiologists. This study aims to identify novel serum biomarkers, metabolic profiles, and genetic markers that can aid in the early detection and monitoring of thyroid cancer. By analyzing blood samples from patients at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, the research seeks to provide a more accurate and less invasive diagnostic approach. The findings could significantly improve prognosis and therapeutic strategies for thyroid cancer, particularly in Ethiopia and Africa, where there is limited research in this area.
