Research Summary
Tharcille’s research investigates the gendered implications of state-led resettlement housing programs, particularly focusing on female-headed households (FHH) in Kigali, Rwanda. The study challenges the generalization often found in housing policies that treat women as a homogeneous group, highlighting the complexities of gender intersections and the diverse needs of marginalized women. Through qualitative methods, including interviews and focus group discussions with FHHs, the research aims to understand how their housing perceptions and livelihoods are shaped by socio-cultural, economic, and environmental factors. By providing nuanced insights into these dynamics, the study seeks to inform policy debates and contribute to gender-inclusive housing strategies, ultimately aligning with the goals of sustainable development and improving the living conditions of resettled households in Rwanda.
