Education
Rogia Gomez is a PhD student at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania in the Department of Animal, Aquaculture and Range Sciences. Her research project is being conducted in association with the Southern African Centre for Infectious Disease Surveillance (SACIDS). Rogia completed her BSc studies in Sciences and Technologies of Animal Production from the Faculty of Agronomy Sciences at the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin in 2012, and obtained an MSc in Biosecurity and Biosafety in Poultry Sector from the Centre of Regional Excellence on Poultry Sciences (Centre d’Excellence Régional sur les Sciences Aviaires – CERSA) at the University of Lome in Togo in 2018.
Research & Work
Rogia’s research focuses on biosecurity measures within poultry farms, and their impact on the final quality of poultry products. This new research will shed light on the existing flaws in health management (biosecurity) within farming systems on the continent. Given that health risks, as well as types of farming, differ from one country to another, Rogia’s research will provide tailored advice on the necessary biosafety measures with a focus on Tanzania. Rogia’s findings will improve farming conditions in developing countries and therefore prevent livestock diseases thereby creating more profits among smallholder farmers.
