Peace Uwambaye has earned a PhD and is a lecturer at the University of Rwanda College of Medicine and Health Sciences in the School of Dentistry. Peace also heads the Preventive and Community Dentistry Department and holds a Master’s degree in Health Informatics from the University of Rwanda, in the School of Public Health. She is a member of the Rwanda Dental Association, a research committee and institutional review board, in the School of Dentistry, and a board member of the Rwanda Allied Health Professions Council. In 2018, Peace also received a travel grant from NIH Fogarty to attend a fellowship program on ethical issues in global health research during clinical trials at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in the U.S.A. Peace has also contributed her research and findings to numerous publications. 

Research & Work

Peace’s research is in oral diseases and maternal health. Specifically, it focuses on the role of periodontitis, a common gum disease, on preterm birth. The research will have a significant impact by increasing awareness on the connection between oral and maternal health. Peace’s research will also help inform policies on the improvement of oral health during pregnancy, contributing to the improvement of maternal and neonatal health.
