Research Summary
Several studies exist about autism spectrum disorders in developed countries but little  has  been done in Tanzania, and Africa in general. There is a gap in knowledge about  the impacts of autism on the educational aspect of an individual. Miriam’s research looks at autism from an educational perspective with a special  focus  on  solutions that enable learners with autism to obtain maximum  educational outputs while schooling in an inclusive educational setting.  Currently, there is no study known on the model for appropriate educational support systems for children with autism in Tanzanian schools. Most of the studies in Tanzania have focused on the inclusion for other kinds of special learners. Several studies have exposed the challenges of providing quality education for learners with Autism in an inclusive setting; however, policy makers and other educational stakeholders would benefit by having empirical data on what model will work better in education provision for learners with autism in inclusive schools.  Miriam’s study intends to bridge that gap by assessing the current situation and proposing a relevant environment, curriculum, pedagogy and other special services which are needed as educational support systems for children with autism spectrum disorders within the inclusive setting in Tanzania.
