Education
Marie Cecile holds a Master of Science degree in Bioprocesses and Applied Chemistry from the National Higher Polytechnic School of Douala in Cameroon, which she completed in October 2022. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Bioprocesses and Applied Chemistry at the same institution. Marie Cecile has completed her coursework and successfully defended her research proposal. She is expected to graduate in December 2025. She is also working as a Graduate Student Instructor at the National Higher Polytechnic School of Douala.

Research Summary
Marie Cecile’s research focuses on developing a sustainable and cost-effective solution for water purification by creating activated carbon (AC) from waste materials like plastic (polyethylene terephthalate, PET) and palm nut shells. These materials are commonly associated with water and soil pollution. The study aims to optimize the AC’s pore structure and adsorption properties through various carbonization and activation methods. The synthesized AC will be evaluated for its ability to remove multiple pollutants—such as heavy metals, pesticides, and bacteria—from contaminated water. By leveraging waste materials for multi-pollutant removal, this research offers a novel approach to water purification, promoting environmental sustainability, resource recovery, and improved access to clean water, particularly in developing countries.
