Research Summary
Little is known about Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHRs) among deaf women and girls especially due to a failure to incorporate  the use of sign language in the health sectors. Yet, these women are at a higher risk of SRHRs complications due to exclusion from mainstream reproductive health services interventions. Esther’s research will focus on three elements of SRHRs: maternal health rights, contraceptive use and adolescent sexual reproductive information. Her study seeks to gain insights into the sign language experience and is timely given the recent recognition of sign language by the Ugandan government. It will contribute to informing future scholarship, legislation and policy makers with a  view to  enhancing, promoting and protecting rule of law and human rights of deaf women.
