Course Description

Writing for publication, submitting research to journals, and preparing grant proposals are essential but frequently neglected skills that serve to translate the scientific training early career researchers receive during their doctoral and post-doctoral education into new knowledge accessible to stakeholders in their fields, the wider scientific community, and beyond.

The Mawazo Learning Exchange’s CoreCourse on Publishing and Grant Writing seeks to provide a concrete and comprehensive introduction to these fundamental skills, and to provide beneficiaries with the knowledge, tools, and resources they require to begin their transition from students to knowledge producers.

This course aims to introduce early-career researchers without extensive prior experience writing research papers and research proposals to the essential academic research, writing, and publishing skills they need to build reputable, impactful, and financially sustainable careers in research.

The objectives of this CoreCourse are as follows:

  • To help researchers understand basic e-resources they can use to produce and publicize their work more effectively.
  • To help researchers write well-structured research paper manuscripts that clearly and effectively communicate their work.
  • To help researchers navigate the process of publishing their manuscripts in credible journals, from the earliest stages of journal selection to final stages of peer-review.
  • To help researchers write competitive, thorough, and well-targeted research proposals to secure funding for their research.

This course is comprised of the following lessons:

  1. E-Resources for Researchers
  2. Academic Writing and Publishing
  3. Grant Writing and Management
