Course Description

Internet, world wide web, cyber security, cyber attacks, hackers, viruses and many other terms often come up when we are talking about crimes that are committed in the spaces of modern technology. The current world has evolved in terms of how we communicate with each other by the use of infrastructure, software and hardware devices that increase the bandwidth in terms of how far and how fast we can share data with each other. There is a lot of good in these innovations, faster processing of information, ease of use, ease of transmission and the like.  However, as with all things, there is another side to these innovations that if not checked could negatively affect us as users. A key area of impact lies in the data and information we send to each other on these platforms which in the wrong hands may have lasting or even tragic impacts directly on us or to anyone affected by that data.

When it comes to research data, oftentimes the accuracy of that data has major consequences. Imagine a scenario where someone tampered with research data that was crucial to the Covid-19 virus, or a malicious person altered the data regarding the formulas of the vaccines for a malicious reason. The consequences would be life-altering if not altogether threatening for those affected right?

That’s where this internet and Data Security course comes in. In it, we shall cover:-

  1. Definitions – Understanding the different terminology
  2. Internet and Data Vulnerabilities
  3. Defensive outlook on Security
  4. A Discussion – A Live Event
