“Energy recovery from rice biomass after pretreatment by solar drying

Country of Study
Ivory Coast

Institution
Felix Houphouet-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute

Expected Year of Completion
2026

Thematic Area
Energy

Education
Binta’s PhD thesis is in Renewable Energy, with a focus on green energy. She holds a Master’s degree in Engineering and Renewable Energies from Polytechnical School Thies (EPT) in Senegal. Currently working as a Planning and Engineering Specialist in Energy and Environment at Orange-SONATEL, she is in her second year of PhD studies at the Félix HOUPHOUËT-BOIGNY National Polytechnic Institute (INP-HB) in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, and is expected to complete her PhD in 2026.

Research Summary
Binta Niome’s study investigates the use of solar drying as a pretreatment to enhance biogas production from rice biomass, including husks, straw, bran, and powder. These abundant residues are often buried or incinerated, leading to environmental concerns. By reducing moisture content and facilitating grinding, solar drying aims to improve the efficiency of anaerobic digestion, offering a sustainable solution to both waste management and renewable energy production.
