Research Summary
Ayalnesh’s research investigates the shortcomings of Addis Ababa’s housing policies, budgets, and their gender responsiveness, aiming to identify gaps that hinder the realization of the right to adequate housing. Despite the implementation of housing policies since 2012, significant deprivation persists, particularly among low- and middle-income residents, exacerbated by factors like bureaucratic inefficiencies and unaffordable housing options. The study employs mixed research methods to assess these issues, seeking to influence inclusive and gender-responsive housing policies and budgets, thereby contributing to poverty reduction and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 11.
