Education

Trizah Koyi Milugo has earned a PhD student in Medical Entomology at Tumaini University, in Tanzania. Trizah holds a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Biotechnology both from the University of Nairobi. Her current research interest is in natural product chemistry and the chemical ecology of disease vectors (i.e. living organisms capable of transmitting infectious diseases to humans, animals, and plants). Trizah also provides mentorship to high school students in western Kenya through career talks, where she hopes to instill in them a passion for science.

Research

Trizah studies mosquito-parasite interactions with the aim of designing interventions that can disrupt the transmission of the malaria parasite to humans. Currently, the sub-Saharan African region carries a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden, with many of the annual deaths preventable. Trizah’s research will contribute to the identification of plant derived antimalarial compounds. As such, her research will contribute towards expanding the arsenal of safe and effective antimalarials, thus helping prevent and reduce avoidable deaths in the region.
