Education
Frida W. Andalu is an Assistant Lecturer and a PhD student in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Her PhD research is focused on developing a volatile corrosion inhibitor from plants extracts to be used for corrosion inhibition in gas pipelines. Frida holds a Masters in Petroleum Engineering and a Bachelor degree in Mineral and Processing Engineering.
Research & Work
Frida is mindful of the fact that the petroleum industry, like other energy sectors, is weeding out practices that do not adhere to environmental regulations and best practices. Her PhD research aims to replace volatile corrosion inhibitors which are used for corrosion inhibition on hidden surfaces or top of line pipelines where conventional corrosion inhibitors cannot reach , that are toxic and hence unsafe to the environment. Her research relies on developing volatile corrosion inhibitors from plants which are environmentally safe and effective in preventing top-of-line corrosion in gas pipelines. Through her research, Frida hopes to improve the durability of the pipelines which will reduce cost of operation through the use of plant originated volatile corrosion inhibitors, since it is not a common practice in the petroleum industry. Frida’s research will add to the global environmentally conscious conversation in the petroleum sector due to the scarcity of knowledge on using plant extracts for corrosion inhibition.
