Course Description

Understanding the policy making process and where researchers come in, how to engage policy makers and in the most effective way, and how to measure the impact of their research in influencing policy, are important skills for researchers in the developing world to have. 

Mawazo Learning Exchange’s Policy Engagement for Early Career Researchers course seeks to provide an introduction to these fundamental skills, and to provide beneficiaries with the knowledge, tools, and resources they require to use their research to contribute to policy decision making locally, regionally and globally.

The objectives of this CoreCourse are as follows:

  1. To help researchers understand the policy cycle and where they come in in the process
  2. To help researchers understand the concept of Evidence Informed Decision Making (EIDM) and how it influences policy making
  3. To help researchers understand the importance of effectively engaging with policy makers and equip them with the tools to do so 
  4. To help researchers understand the importance identifying and evaluating the impact of their research on influencing policy
