Research Summary
Mick’s research focuses on improving the health system’s response to cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Burundi, where CVD accounts for 12% of all deaths. As CVD remains the leading cause of death globally, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, this study aims to address key determinants of CVD through a series of six studies. These include a systematic review of cardiovascular risk factors, analysis of CVD dynamics in hospitals, an observational study on risk factors, assessment of the quality of CVD management, identification of prognostic factors in hospital settings, and evaluation of interventions aimed at combating CVD. The goal is to enhance healthcare strategies to reduce CVD-related deaths in Burundi.
