Research Summary
Esther’s research aims to explore the effect of monetary policy on foreign financial inflows (FFI) in East African countries. Specifically, it examines the impact of monetary policy on four major inflows: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI), Official Development Assistance (ODA), and Foreign Remittances (FR). The study also investigates how the interaction between monetary policy and institutional quality affects the flow of foreign capital into these economies. Using panel data from seven East African countries spanning from 2003 to 2022, Esther’s research seeks to provide valuable insights that can guide policymakers in creating effective strategies to attract international capital and promote sustainable economic growth in the region. This study is crucial in addressing the knowledge gap about the role of monetary policy in attracting foreign investment in East Africa, particularly in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
