Research Summary
Dorcas’s research focuses on identifying the key capacity-building practices that can enhance the performance of Women Empowerment Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in informal settlements in Kenya. Despite the important role these CBOs play in promoting gender equality and empowering women through skills training and addressing social inequalities, many face challenges in achieving their goals effectively and sustainably. The study will evaluate the impact of leadership development, mentorship, vocational training, and digital literacy practices on the performance of these organizations. It will also examine the role of socio-cultural factors in influencing their success. By addressing gaps in research and practice, this study aims to provide evidence-based strategies to strengthen these organizations, inform policy development, and ultimately improve gender equality and women’s empowerment at the grassroots level in Kenya.
