“Farmer’s Knowledge, Diversity of Fungi Pathogens of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L) and Biocontrol with Extracts of Mushroom in the Northwest Region of Cameroon

Country of Study
Cameroon

Institution
University of Bamenda

Expected Year of Completion
2025

Thematic Area
Health and Life Sciences

Education
Baba’s PhD thesis is in Plant Pathology. She holds an MSc in Agronomy from the University of Bamenda’s College of Technology in Cameroon. A Part-time Lecturer with the HND B-Tech program at the University of Bamenda, she is currently in her third year of PhD studies at the same university and is expected to complete her doctorate in 2025.

Research Summary
Baba’s research focuses on assessing farmers’ knowledge of wheat fungal diseases, identifying pathogenic fungi species affecting wheat in Cameroon’s Northwest region, and evaluating the efficacy of mushroom extracts as biocontrol agents against these pathogens. By surveying farmers, collecting diseased wheat samples, and conducting laboratory analyses, the study aims to enhance disease management practices and improve food security in the region. Limited awareness and the absence of effective, environmentally friendly control measures currently hinder optimal wheat production.
