Meet The 2025 Mawazo Fellows
We are proud to introduce the 2025/2026 Mawazo Fellows — our fourth and largest cohort yet.
This year, we welcome 60 exceptional women PhD candidates representing 28 countries across Africa, reflecting our continued commitment to supporting a truly pan-African network of emerging researchers.
Their research tackles some of the most pressing challenges on the continent today, across fields such as: Agriculture and Food Security; Business, Trade, and the Economy; Climate Change, Natural Resources, and the Environment; Education and Pedagogy; Energy and Engineering; Gender, Rights, and Governance; Indigenous Knowledge Systems; Information and Technology; Life and Health Sciences; and Mathematical and Physical Sciences.
These Fellows join a dynamic and growing community of Mawazo alumnae and a broader network of African women in research, innovation, and policy. By investing in their professional growth, we’re strengthening the pipeline of women experts and amplifying their voices in critical knowledge spaces.
The Mawazo Fellowship led by the Mawazo Institute offers tailored professional development, including online learning, curated resources, and mentorship. It is designed to support early-career researchers during their doctoral studies — and beyond — as they navigate their careers and contribute meaningfully to their fields.
Get to know the 60 women who make up this inspiring cohort and discover the work they’re doing to shape Africa’s future.
